Petite Suite (2003)

Instrumentation: Piano solo

Duration: 6'

Movements:

  1. Song Without Words

  2. Humoresque

  3. Nocturne

  4. Galop in Sixty Seconds

Program Note: Petite Suite was composed on various lunch breaks in the spring and summer of 2003. Each of the four movements was designed to be an easier work that introduced younger performers to early 20th-century harmony techniques, respectively: planing, quartal harmony, pandiatonicism, and free chromatic dissonance. Beyond its pedagogical intent, the suite makes for a lighter recital offering. Movements may be excerpted and performed on their own.
